Here’s the schedule for the week. I’ll keep this short and simply direct your attention to the To Kill A Mockingbird page on my site for all the week’s handouts. Or you can go to the 10th Grade Handouts portion of the site. Either works.
Monday: We’ll be reviewing chapters 1-3 and the work we’ve done on them. I’ll be stamping your response journals, so make sure that you’re up to date with the work.
Homework: Read chapters 7-8
Tuesday: After Grammar #41 about different forms of pronouns I’ll be distributing the second vocabulary list for To Kill A Mockingbird chapters 7-11. Finally, we have a short response for chapter 7. You can find all of those things on the To Kill A Mockingbird page.
Wednesday: We’ll start the day by discussing your responses to chapter 7, then giving the rest of the day over to reading chapters 9-11. They need to be done for class on Thursday.
Thursday: I have a series of questions for chapters 9-11 as well as a short written response for you. I’ll be stamping these in class, so you’ll need to be on top of getting your work done in a prompt manner.
Friday: We have not one but two quizzes on Friday. The first is our Grammar Quiz (no surprise there), the second is our To Kill A Mockingbird Part I quiz. They will take the majority of the period. Also, remember that the end of the grading period is Friday, so it is the final chance to get work in to me if you want it reflected on your progress reports.

Well, after a weekend without heat in my apartment, a Huskies win followed by a Huskies loss, I suppose it’s time to get back to the grind before Spring Break. Buckle down, as these will be two quick, full weeks. Here’s what this one looks like.
Monday: We’ll start class by making our To Kill A Mockingbird response journals. In these we’ll be keeping our vocabulary and FreeWrites, as well as a couple of other things during our reading of the novel. From there, I’ll be giving you our first set of vocab and then jumping right in and reading part of chapter one aloud to you so that you can start to get a feel for the characters.
Homework: Read chapters 2 and 3 for the start of class on Wednesday.
Tuesday: For the first time this year we’ll be attending the play previews. Whoohoo!
Wednesday: After we get back into our routine with Grammar #36 I have a short worksheet on chapters 1 through 3 that we’ll spend much of the class period on. It is due at the start of class on Thursday.
Homework: Finish the chapters 1-3 worksheet.
Thursday: After I stamp the work from Wednesday we’ll start the day with Grammar #37. From there we’ll be going over the work from Wednesday, then the rest of the period is yours to read chapters 4-6 for class on Friday.
Homework: Read chapters 4-6.
Friday: If I were you I’d anticipate a quiz on Friday. After the quiz that might hypothetically happen and might hypothetically be on chapters 1-6 and might hypothetically include vocab as well you’ll receive vocab #2 for the novel. The rest of the period will be spent on this worksheet covering some of the major events and ideas in chapters 4-6.

Well, as I sit stuck in traffic on a very snowy HWY 2 I’ll make the most of my time by writing up the week. It’s a pretty simple one, as we’ll be spending plenty of time working on our Macbeth essays. Please note that they’re due on Friday.
Monday: We’ll be in the library working on our essays. You must get your intro/hooks signed off before you can begin, and I’ll be monitoring your progress as you work.
Tuesday: After beginning with a grammar warmup we’ll be peer editing our essays. Bring what you have so that you can make sure to have somebody read over your work. Remember, I won’t accept essays that haven’t been peer edited.
Wednesday: We’ll be in the library on more time to give you an opportunity to revise your essays. You should be nearly finished with them by the time we leave, but they won’t be due until Friday.
Thursday: Naturally, we’ll begin with our grammar lesson which will be followed by the beginning of our last piece of Macbeth. In small groups you’ll be acting out a scene from the play, and you can find the directions and requirements here.
Friday: After our grammar quiz I’ll be collecting you essays. We’ll end the day by breaking into our performance groups to start working on our scenes.

Hey S’mores. In our ultra short week we’ll be skipping all things grammar-related and focusing on our writing, specifically the writing of our Macbeth essay. I’ll be distributing the prompts on Thursday, but first we’ll be spending a little bit of time on Wednesday discussing how to write a proper introduction. This is something we’ve struggled with, and I have a few ideas that might help a bit. Friday will be a writing day, and we’ll be in the lab (or at least have a lab in the classroom) so that we can start working out our ideas. If you’re gone on Thursday, be sure to check back to get the actual prompts so that you can be ready to go during the week. I’ll be adding more to our week as it gets going, but, with the t(h)reat of snow, I don’t want to put anything down in stone just yet.

Happy Singles Awareness Week! Because this is a short week, and because we’ll be finishing Macbeth this week I’ll jump right in, but will let you know at the outset that we’ve got a fair amount of stuff, so make sure to stay up with your work.
Monday: We’ll be working through a set of questions about Act 5, Scene 2. I’ll be stamping them for completion, of course. Afterwards, please complete the reading for the evening (Act 5.3 and 5.4).
Homework: Read V.iii and V.iv.
Tuesday: After Grammar #35 we’ll debrief V.iii and V.iv then view V.v and V.vi. Also, I’ll be distributing the end-of-play exam study guide.
Homework: Read V.vii
Wednesday: Because of the short week we’ll begin the day with Grammar #35, then we’ll be reading V.viii aloud in class, mainly because it is awesome and tons of fun to act out. This will take much of the class period
Thursday: We will have our final exam on the play on Thursday.

I’ll be posting the rest of the week shortly, but in the meantime here’s the work for Act IV.ii in which Lady Macduff runs afoul of Macbeth. Again, you’ll have exactly 10 minutes at the start of class tomorrow to finish.

As we begin semester #2 we’ll continue our work with Macbeth as well as our work with our year-long grammar unit. I’ll talk about the plan for this semester today, but we’re just going to keep on keeping on.
Monday: After we discuss the plan for this semester we’ll be jumping into Act III.iii and acting part of it out. There’s nothing quite as fun as staging a proper murder, and we’ll have a good time with it.
Homework: Read III.iv
Tuesday: We’ll begin the day with our first grammar assignment of the year then transition into the massively important banquet scene of III.iv. This scene is among the most famous in all of Shakespeare’s work, and we’ll be taking it apart in great detail so that you see everything that’s going on.
Wednesday: We’ll start Wednesday by watching III.v, as it is a pretty bizarre scene and it really needs to be experienced. From there we’ll be transitioning to a “translation” of the witches meeting with Hecate.
Homework: Read III.vi
Thursday: After our next installment of grammar we’ll spend a bit more time with III.vi. I have a series of questions for you to demonstrate that you’ve read it closely. We’ll be both doing and discussing them in class, so make sure you’re here.
Friday: We have not one but two quizzes on Friday. The first is our normal grammar quiz, the second in a midpoint quiz for Macbeth. It will cover Acts I-III, and will include passage analysis, basic comprehension, and one short writing piece.

First thing first, it was pointed out to me that Thursday is the proper due date for you Outside Reading, as it is 1 week prior to the end of the semester. Second, this week is full of Shakespeare, and there is a bit of reading homework this weekend.
Tuesday: The week starts easily, as Tuesday is dedicated to finishing up your Front Page for Act 1 of Macbeth. The assignment is due Wednesday, but we won’t be working on it in class.
Homework: Read Act II.i
Wednesday: Again, your Front Page assignment is due Wednesday, so make sure you have made the necessary arrangements. I’ll also be showing part of Act II.i, and we’ll be working out exactly what Macbeth’s strange vision was all about by discussing allusion and motif .
Homework: Read II.ii
Thursday: We’ll be watching part of II.ii and continuing our discussion of allusion and motif.
Friday: We’ll start in on II.iii by watching the famous Porter Scene. I need to walk you through much of the scene and discuss some of the interesting facets of his bizarre scene. Afterwards I’ll give you time to read.
Homework: Finish II.iii

Here is the mini-writing prompt from class on Wednesday. Remember, it is P/F, so if you need help, let me know.
