I’ll try to keep this short, as I have been grading for the last nine hours and really don’t feel like doing much more in the way of work on the weekend.
Monday: We’ll be working on crafting a summary and a response to the reading from the weekend. If you were gone on Friday (you know who you are) you’ll need to catch up by reading through page 35 in Things Fall Apart. You can find a link to the instructions for our summary here.
Tuesday: As we continue to work with Things Fall Apart I’ll be asking us to make some predictions about what we think will be happening to a number of the characters. In class we’ll be making a little chart that details what we think will happen and attaching some passages to it as evidence. This chart will come in handy on Thursday’s in-class writing prompt.
Wednesday: We’ll be reading through page 51 during an in-class reading day. I want to make sure that everybody is caught up and ready to work on a writing prompt for class on Thursday, so I’ll be giving you time to do the reading at school. If you don’t finish, the reading is totally homework.
Thursday: In-class writing day! Just because the HSPE is done doesn’t mean that we’ll stop writing any time soon. We’ll be focusing specifically on thesis construction, which has been a point of relative difficulty on our in-class writings. You’ll be able to find the link here (soon!).
Friday: Bring in a magazine for class on Friday that you don’t mind cutting up. We’re going to be starting a giant timeline made primarily of magazine clippings that will chart the character development of Okonkwo and his family through the course of the novel.
Note: I know that this is the last week before spring break, and I will do everything in my power to honor that most sacred of weeks. That said, please make sure that you stay on top of the reading so that you don’t fall too far behind and then forget everything that has happened over the break.
